Sheila Baaby

Sheila is the name of the crismson 2013 toyota prius Growmobile. We call her Sheila Baaby.

It was a Monday morning, two days after the biggest weekend of Grow’s life. On Saturday, we hosted Grow’s first art exhibit and on Sunday Grow’s first music festival. By Monday morning, back at the venue for the art show, we went to check out the final product. One of our loyal companions, Tess, hadn’t been able to partake in the show and was fiending to get artsy.

Upon our arrival, we found the room painted over with white paint. They told us that there would be no more art allowed in this room, that the exhibit had finished…..fair. But we were somewhat inspired and enraged and knew we wouldn’t leave the property without a moment of creativity. So we walked out to the parking lot and found pieces of cardboard to spray paint on…DUN DUN DUN.

Our other pal Zåz says to me: “Yo should we spray paint your car?” We’d been riding around that summer preaching to semi-willing ears that “everything’s a canvas.” With Zåz and his creative idea, we were boxed into a corner of hypocrisy or spray painting on the car, and so began Sheila Baaby, the Growmobile.

For the rest of that warm 2021 summer in Los Angeles and windy Venice Beach, we drove sheila around with chalk markers and spray paint. We encouraged friends, strangers and good vibrators to share a creative moment with this muse of a prius.

Here’s what happened:
